성소수자 대학원생의 자아정체감 확립을 위한 자서전적 미술치료 질적 사례 연구

본 연구의 목적은 성소수자 대학원생이 자서전적 미술치료를 통해 자아정체감을 형성하는 경험과 그 의미를 탐색하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 27세 레즈비언 대학원생을 연구 참여자로 선정하고, 2024년 1월부터 2월까지 주2회 120분씩 총 8회 진행된 미술치료와 3차례의 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과 5개의 상위 주제와 13개의 하위 주제로 도출되었으며, 상위 주제는 ‘성정체화의 기로에서 고군분투’, ‘성소수자로서 억압된 감정을 탐색하고 에너지를 얻음’, ‘성소수자로서 살아가는 데 힘이 되는 자원 발견’, ‘소수자 스트레스를 적응적으로 표출하고 대처’, ‘새롭게 발견한 나를 이해하고 정체성을 확립함’이다. 본 연구는 자서전적 미술치료에서 성소수자 대학원생이 이미지와 자서전적 이야기를 반복적으로 표현하고 탐색하는 과정을 통해 갈등을 다루고 유연하게 자신의 정체성을 찾아가는 경험과 의미를 심도 있게 다루었다는 데 의미 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점에 대하여 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study purposed to examine the experiences and meanings associated with the ego identity formation of an LGBTQ+ graduate student who was a 27-year-old lesbian through autobiographical art therapy. The study collected data from eight art therapy sessions, conducted twice weekly for 120 minutes between January and February 2024, along with three in-depth interviews. The analysis identified five main themes and thirteen sub-themes. The primary themes were: ‘Struggling at the crossroads of sexual identity formation,’ ‘Exploring suppressed emotions as an LGBTQ+ individual and gaining strength,’ ‘Discovering resources that provided support for living as a sexual minority,’ ‘Adaptively expressing and coping with minority stress,’ and ‘Understanding the newly discovered ego and establishing identity.’ This study emphasized the significance of autobiographical art therapy in allowing the participant to express and explore internal conflicts through repeated visual and narrative storytelling, facilitating the flexible process of ego identity formation. The findings offered meaningful insights into the participant’s journey toward understanding and affirming her identity. Based on these findings, the study discussed the significance and limitations.
