≪华严石经≫残片#10670上的残字考释

Abstract

Among Stone Avatamska Sutra pieces, there are some pieces of only broken letters but there are also mixtures of broken letters and identifiable intact letters. If only broken letters as the former are remaining, identifications are almost impossible, and it is very hard to restore the letters. However, in the case of mixtures of broken letters and intact letters as the latter, restorations are possible through character form analyses and comparisons with the shapes of other letters existing in the Stone Avatamska Sutra. At the same time, through this restoration method, the location of the piece in the Stone Avatamska Sutra can be identified. This work includes verifying identifiable intact letters, surmising what is the original letter of the broken letter, based on remaining shapes of broken letters, and comparing the broken letters with the Avatamsaka Sutra, which can verify the intact shapes of the broken letters. To restore broken letters of the latter which exist in the piece #10670 of Stone Avatamska Sutra, this paper divided the piece #10670 of Stone Avatamska Sutra into 5 areas based on ‘悉(xi)’, which is identifiable, and analyzed broken letters of A, B, C, and D areas where letter identification was not performed. As a result, it is concluded that broken letters of A, B, C, and D areas can be identified as 依(yi), 禪(chan), 定(ding), and 切(qie).
