Abstract
“Sujinbyeo”, a new mid-late maturing japonica rice variety (Oryza sativa L.), was developed by the rice breeding team of National Yeongnam Agricultural Experiment Station (NYAES) in 1999 and released in 2000. This variety originated from a three way cross of Milyang 95//Milyang 96/Milyang 106 (crossed in 1990 summer) and was selected using a mixed method of bulk and pedigree breeding. The pedigree of Sujinbyeo, Milyang 156 designated in 1997, was YR14262-B-B-B-78-2. It has lodging resistance with short-status and culm length of 81 cm. This variey is resistant to bacterial blight (K1), stripe virus diseases and moderately resistant to leaf blast disease. Milled rice kernels of “Sujinbyeo” is translucent with non-glutinous endosperm and clear in chalkness and good eating quality in pannel test. The yield potential of “Sujinobyeo” is about 5.51 (ton)/ha in milled rice at ordinary fertilizer level. This cultivar would be adaptable to the southern plain of Korea.
