Abstract
Soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe, SCN) is an important soybean pest and the use of resistant cul-tivars is an effective method to reduce or eliminate SCN damage. SCN resistance loci, rhg1 and Rhg4 are generally accepted as anecesity for the development of resistant genotypes using any source of resistance. In the present study, resistant F2 genotypes toSCN have been selected using molecular markers linked to the rhg1 and Rhg4 genes. Four diferent populations were developedand Satt309 and Primer 548/563 markers were used to improve SCN resistance soybean cultivars for MAS (marker assisted selec-tion) scheme. The segregation of the markers in the F2 population was matched to a 3:1 ratio for the Primer 548/563 marker and a2 genotypes were selected by Primer 548/563 marker and 70 F2 individuals wereselected by Satt309 marker from four diferent F2 segregating populations. A total of 40 F2 genotypes were chosen based on bothPrimer 548/563 and Satt309 markers. These F2 individuals proved to be have the rhg1 and Rhg4 loci and will be advanced to thenext generation to improve SCN resistant cultivars using MAS technique.
