Abstract
A single cross, Pungmiok is yellow dent hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) developed by the corn breeding team at the National Crop Experiment Station (NCES), RDA in 2002. This hybrid, which has a high yield of dry matter, total digestible nutrients (TDN), is made crossing between two inbred lines, the seed parent, KS121, and the pollen parent, KS139. Its silking date is two days later than that of its check hybrid, Kwanganok. It is longer than a check hybrid, Kwanganok in ear length and its stay green is better than Kwanganok. It is resistant to Biporalis maydis and Exserohilum turcicum, but is sensitive to black streaked dwarf virus (BSDV) and is moderately resistant to corn borer. The average yields of Pungmiok in dry matter and TDN were 18.27 ton/ha and 12.62 ton/ha in regional yield trials for three years, which were increased 7% and 6% compared with a check hybrid, Kwanganok. Seed production of Pungmiok has gone well due to good match during crossing between female line, KS121, and male line, KS139.
