A New Red Color Rose Cultivar, ＂Taeyang＂

Abstract

A new red standard rose(Rose hybrida Hort.) cultivar Taeyang was developed from a cross Red Velvet and Mary Devor followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services(ARES) in 1999. Characteristics were examined three times from 2001 to 2003. It has characteristics of red-group color(RHS No. 46A), few thorns and standard large flower with a good harmony between ray floret and flower center. The vase life of cut flower was 9.1days. This cultivar was registered as a commercial cultivars in 2003. It will be able to be planted in any greenhouse production region of Korea.
