병원 간판에 나타난 한글 타이포그래피 연구

Abstract

In this study, examined the colors, frequency, kinds of Korean characters and background colors according to the Korean font design and typographic point of view about the signboards. Korean character(Eum-jul) is differ from Roman alphabet which is used by English and American. Korean character is not distinguished by space but by Eum-jul(one syllable). Because of composing one syllable before complete one word, Korean character's font design is not same as Roman alphabet font design. Korean Eum-jul is consist of first consonant(Cho-seong), vowel(Jung- seong) and last consonant(Bat-chim) which is so called coda. Research method is analyzing hospital's signboard in Seoul city. Result of the research, background color of signboards is mainly blue and white and the color of characters is white and black. It is the worst problem of signboard's Korean character that most Korean character font design did not keep the rules of spelling which must obey the draft for unified Korean spelling system which is formulated by the Korean government. To solve this problem, the government should notify hospital administrators and let signboard painters know about the unified Korean spelling system.
