도농복합도시 노인의 사회활동 수준과 우울증상의 관계에 대한 분석 : 직접 효과와 외로움을 매개로 한 간접 효과를 중심으로

초록

본 연구의 목적은 사회활동과 우울증상과의 관계를 직접 효과와 외로움을 매개로 한 간접 효과로 나누어 분석하는 것이다. 본 연구의 자료는 2017년 춘천지역 65 세 이상 노인 1,000명을 대상으로 실시된 조사 결과이다. 사회활동은 공식적 사회활동(formal social activity)과 비공식적 사회활동(informal social activity)으로 구분하여 측정하였다. 비공식적 사회활동의 경우 그 대상과 방법으로 나누어 측정하여, 자녀만남, 자녀통화, 친구 · 이웃만남, 친구 · 이웃통화로 구성하였다. 비공식 사회활동 각각은 접촉 정도를 반영하여 1점~10점으로 측정하였다. 공식적 사회활동은종교, 친목, 여가, 연고, 자원봉사, 정치 목적의 6개 사회활동에 대한 참여 수준 점수를 합산하여 측정하였다. 본 연구에서는 도농복합지역의 특성을 고려하여 읍 · 면지역과 동 지역으로 나누어 분석을 실시하였다. 우울증상에 대한 직접 효과와 외로움을 매개로 한 간접 효과를 분석하기 위해 본 연구에서는 경로분석법을 활용하였다. 이와 함께 간접 효과가 유의미한지 분석하기 위해 소벨 테스트(Sobel test)를 실시하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 읍 · 면 지역과 동 지역 모두에서 자녀와의 만남 및 통화는 외로움과 유의미한 관계를 보이지 않았고 우울증상에 대해서도직접 효과와 외로움을 매개로 한 간접 효과 모두 유의미하지 않은 것으로 나타나고있다. 둘째, 친구 · 이웃과의 만남이나 통화의 경우 읍 · 면 지역과 동 지역 모두에서 외로움과 유의미한 관계를 보이고 있으며, 우울증상에 외로움을 매개로 한 간접효과도 유의미한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 셋째, 공식적 사회활동 참여 수준의 경우읍 · 면 지역에서만 우울증상에 직접효과가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 간접효과는 읍 · 면 지역과 동 지역 모두에서 유의미한 것으로 나타났다.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between social activities and depressive symptoms. The study divided the relationship into direct effect and indirect effects mediated by loneliness. The data of the study came from the survey conducted on 1,000 elderly people aged 65 and over in Chuncheon in 2017. Considering the difference between the urban and rural areas, the study divided the samples into a urban (dong) and rural(eup-myeon) area and analyzed each group separately. The study analyzed the data using path analysis to analyze the direct and the indirect effect mediated by loneliness on depressive symptom. The results were as follows. First, meeting or phone calls with children did not show a significant relationship with loneliness, and both of the direct and the indirect effect were not significant on depressive symptom. Second, meetings or phone calls with friends and neighbors reduced loneliness and have an indirect effect on depression through loneliness in both the urban (dong) and the rural(eup-myeon) area. Third, for the level of formal social activity participation, it was found that there was a direct effect on depression only in the eup-myeon area, and the indirect effect was found to be significant in both the eup-myeon and the dong area.
