화이트헤드의 環境哲學에 관한 小考 - 상대성원리를 중심으로 -

Abstract

In the philosophy of substance, subject is always subject and environment is environment. While the former has been central topic, the latter has been widely disregarded. Philosophy of substance, starting from the absoluteness of existence, formed finally the predominance of human and humanism. Indeed, because of the inclination for subject, appeared the standpoint of materialistic mechanism that ignore environment. Such an appearance in the end caused the problem of environment. In the other hand, in Whitehead's environmental philosophy, environment includes the whole universe of the infinite space and all actual entity to whom physical prehension is possible. It means also that all actual entity and the whole universe can become subject. According to his principle of universal relativity, environment becomes subject and subjects become environment. Through this principle, we can change our paradigm of thought established by the traditional substance philosophy and build a new system of thought for both environment and the subject. Through Whitehead's principle we can find a way to proceed to solve the problem of the destruction of nature.
