창립 70주년을 앞둔 대한체질인류학회의 미래를 위한 제언

본 연구에서는 최근 3년(2022~2024년)간 학회의 회원 관리, 학술대회 및 학회지 운영 현황을 정리하여 학회의 전반적인 상황을 파악하고, 학회의 발전을 위해 개편 혹은 개선이 필요한 요인들을 분석하며, 그에 대한 현실적인 해결방안을 마련하기 위한 몇 가지 제언을 하고자 한다. 최근 3년간 대한체질인류학회 회원 수와 학술대회 등록 인원은 증가폭이 크지 않았다. 또한, 학술대회의 연제 수도 많지 않았다. 학회지 게재 논문 수도 증가하지 않았고 그 분야도 제한적이었다. 학회 명칭에 대한 설문조사에서는 명칭의 변경이 필요하다는 의견이 다수였고, 학회지명과 동일한 ‘해부생물인류학회’로 변경하는 것을 선호하였다. 본 저자는 학회의 항구적인 발전을 위해 몇 가지 제언을 하고자 한다. 첫째, 전체 회원들에게 학회 활동 여부를 확인한 후 회원 등급 및 혜택을 부여하여 회원으로서의 소속감과 자긍심을 고취시키자는 것이다. 둘째, 학회 홈페이지의 효율적인 활용을 위하여 소통창구로서의 역할을 강화하자는 것이다. 셋째, 학술대회와 학회지의 활성화를 위하여 대외적인 활동과 교류를 강화하고 이를 적극적으로 홍보하자는 것이다. 넷째, 학회 명칭의 변경을 통해 학회의 정체성을 명확히 규정하고 학회 회원들의 권익을 보호하자는 것이다. 위의 제언들을 바탕으로 항구적인 학회 발전을 위해서는 학회 회원들의 적극적인 참여와 의견 개진이 반드시 필요하며, 학회 집행부 임원들은 회원들의 소중한 뜻을 잘 받들어 학회의 올바른 자리매김에 이바지해야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to summarize the status of member management, academic conferences, and journals over the past three years (2022~2024) to understand the overall situation of the Korean Association of Physical Anthropologists, analyze the factors that need to be improved for its development, and propose practical solutions. Over the past three years, the number of members and conference registrants of the Korean Association of Physical Anthropologists has not significantly increased. Additionally, the number of presentations at academic conferences was not substantial. The number of papers published in the journal ‘Anatomy & Biological Anthropology’ did not increase, and the research fields of them remained restricted. A survey on the association’s name revealed that a majority of respondents believed a name change was necessary, with a preference for renaming it to ‘Society for Anatomy and Biological Anthropology’, aligning it with the journal’s title. The author proposes several recommendations for the sustainable development of the association. First, after verifying the participation decision of all members, membership tiers and benefits should be assigned to enhance members’ sense of belonging and pride. Second, the association’s website should be effectively utilized by reinforcing its role as a communication platform. Third, to revitalize academic conferences and journals, external activities and scholastic exchanges should be strengthened and actively promoted. Fourth, changing the association’s name could help clearly define its identity and protect the rights and interests of its members. For the long-term development of the association, active participation and input from its members are essential. Additionally, the executive committee must carefully consider and respect the valuable opinions of members to ensure the society is properly positioned for the future.
