본 연구는 심리적 부검 방식을 활용하여 자살자의 자살원인을 삶의 전체적인 맥락 안에서 이해하기 위해 수행되었다. 연구의 목적 달성을 위해 고인의 죽음에 관해 이야기 해 줄수 있는 총 10명의 유가족 및 친구를 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 심층 면담을 통해 자료를수집하였으며, 면담을 위해 Shneidman(1977)이 제시한 심리적 부검 조사항목을 기준으로 질문내용을 구성하였다. 수집된 자료는 Strauss와 Corbin(1998)이 제안한 근거이론 방법 중 개방코딩 절차에 따라 분석하였다. 원자료를 분석한 결과 개방코딩 단계에서 126개의 개념과40개의 하위범주, 14개의 범주가 도출되었다. 주요한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자살은생의 전 과정에서 부정적 경험이 축적되어 발생한다는 사실을 확인했다. 둘째, 자살 전 고인들이 다시 적극적으로 살고자 노력했던 황금의 시간(golden time)이 있었음을 확인했다. 셋째, 고인들에게 있어 자살은 억눌린 욕구의 표현 수단으로 활용되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 자살 전 고인들에게서 이상 징후들이 있었음을 확인했다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여자살예방을 위한 몇 가지 실천적 대안들을 제시했다.
Abstract
This study is to understand the causes of suicide from the broad contexts of life by using the method of psychological autopsy. We selected 10 participants who are the family members or close friends of the deceased that can provide informations about the suicide. Data were collected by the depth interview whose questions were constructed following Shneidman's research items(1977), and they were analyzed by the open coding process of the Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory(1998). The 126 concepts, 40 subcategories, and 14 categories were identified from the open coding process. Major findings are as follows: 1. Suicide is attempted as an outcome of the accumulation of negative experiences; 2. There was usually a "golden time" to overcome the suicide before the real attempt; 3. The suicidal attempt can be a means to express the repressed needs; 4. There were unusual symptoms before the suicidal attempt. Based upon these findings, we proposed a couple of practice ideas for the suicide prevention.
