Abstract
The aim of this study is to discuss the sustainability and challenges of the 'community integration care' policy of the aged society by examining the community activities based on integrated service in Japan that provide housing, care, and medical services for the elderly. Specifically, this study is to examine the cases that Japan, which has already entered the super-aged society, implemented the integrated service program to connect the lives of the elderly living in the community, and to suggest implications for Korea, which is at the time of full-scale operation, ahead of the entry into the super-aged society. Integrating housing, care, and medical services is a function of providing integrated services that is made by stratifying physical space in units of community environment. The health condition and professional care and medical service needs of the elderly in Japan and Korea are similar. However, the implementation of integrated services in Korea may be different from that of Japan in terms of the accessibility to housing, care, and medical services. This means that Korea can pursue a different path from Japan in the way of finding and using the aging level and available resources of the local community itself. The formation of a network among service providers may be the first result in the development stage of integrated service programs, because the level of service resources differs in each community.
