We cannot possibly think about something in our lives without it. The important value on this influence is not a thing that we could easily deny. However, as time goes by in a flow of changes, the interest towards confucian concepts and the concern about them become reduced. The emphasis on the confucian ideas is not considerably stressed any more. The confucian ideas are thought of as conventional things and far away from a subject in our sympathy. Therefore, the confucian ideas and concepts are represented by only a few groups of scholars as a exclusive possession. The contents of confucian ethics are handed down in a way of words or expressions in books. For a reason of this means of transmission it is very important to interpret words one by one with serious care for the purpose of understanding confucian ideas. The right and exact translation is necessarily a starting point of the study on confucian ideas. This brief paper aims at the understanding the concepts of filial piety⋅brotherly love(孝悌) and Five virtue(五德) that are the most fundamental concepts in confucian ideas. However, the different approach from philosophical means will be made in order to appreciate those concepts. The serious caution and deep concern about the expression on Chinese language life is taken as a way of this approach. This approach is focused on phrases and words in Chinese character used in confucian texts. The understanding confucian ethics and culture by means of the meaning in words is a important part and step getting through the whole idea of confucianism and confucian thoughts.
