정신장애인의 사회적 낙인지각이 분노표현에 미치는 영향: 자아존중감의 매개 효과를 중심으로

본 연구는 정신장애인의 사회통합을 위해 사회적 낙인지각이 그들의 분노표현에 미치는 영향을 밝히는 것으로 이 과정에서 자아존중감의 매개 효과를 확인하고자 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해서 서울 및 경기도 소재의 정신건강복지센터 11곳, 정신재활시설(주간재활) 19곳에 등록하여 이용하고 있는 성인(19세 이상, 64세 이하) 중 DSM-5에 의해 조현병 진단을 받은 369명을 분석대상으로 하여 단순 선형 회귀분석을 실시하였고 Baron & Kenny(1986)의 분석방법 및 Sobel-Test를 통해 매개 효과를 검증하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 정신장애인의 낙인지각이 역기능적인 분노표현 방식인 분노표출, 분노억제에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 낙인지각과 기능적인 표현방식인 분노조절과의 연관성은 파악할 수 없었다. 셋째, 낙인지각이 분노표출 및 분노억제에 미치는 영향은 자아존중감에 의해 부분적으로 매개되고 있음이 확인되었다. 이는 낙인지각 정도가 높을수록 자아존중감이 낮아지고, 낮은 자아존중감은 역기능적인 방식인 분노표출, 분노억제의 수준을 높인다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 연구결과를 통해 살펴본 사회복지적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 정부 및 기관 차원에서 정신장애인에 대한 사회적 낙인을 감소시키는 방안을 마련해야 한다. 둘째, 분노와 표현방식에 대해 더욱 관심을 가지고 당사자 및 기관 종사자의 적극적인 이해가 확대될 필요가 있다. 셋째, 기능적인 분노표현 방식인 분노조절에 초점을 둔 프로그램을 개발하고 활성화 방안을 마련해야 한다. 넷째, 정신장애인의 자아존중감 향상을 위해 다각적인 변화의 노력과 실천이 이루어져야 할 것이다.
Abstract
This study aims to examine the effects of socially perceived stigma on the anger expression among the mentally disordered and whether the effects are mediated by self-esteem. To examine the research questions, this study conducted a survey collecting information from 369 persons (aged between 19 and 64) diagnosed with schizophrenia according to the DSM-5. The survey participants are registered in eleven mental health welfare centers or nineteen mental rehabilitation facilities(daytime rehabilitation) located in Seoul and Gyeong-gi province. As methodological methods, this study employed OLS regression, Baron & Kenny(1986)’s analytical tools for mediation test, and Sobel-Test. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, we found that the perceived stigma of the mentally disordered has significant impacts on anger expression methods of anger-out and anger-in. Second, we found that the perceived stigma has no significant impacts on the functional expression method of anger-control. Third, it was found that the impact of perceived stigma on anger-out and anger-in was partially mediated by self-esteem. These findings suggest several policy and practice implications. First, the government and institutions should take active actions to reduce social stigma against the mentally disordered. Second, it is necessary to pay more attentions to anger and expression and to help the mentally disordered and agencies enhance understanding of anger and expression of them. Third, we need to develop programs focused on anger control. Fourth, various methods should be implemented to enhance the self-esteem of the mentally disordered.
