Abstract

Aiming to identify the factors which affect the magnitude of reliability coefficients between knowledge tests in physical education at the level of a unit school, this study established the following objectives. First, is the reliability of knowledge tests in physical education produced by the teachers of a unit school different depending on the method of estimation? Second, is the reliability of knowledge tests in physical education different depending on the length and attribute of test and forms of group composition? The subjects were 80 boys attending at the second grade of S middle school in Incheon. To verify the objective of study, the difference in reliability coefficients of the knowledge tests in physical education was analyzed by the top and bottom halves method, the odd and even halves method for splitting a test in half and Cronbach's Alpha to estimate the internal reliability of the tests. According to the results, the knowledge test in physical education produced at the level of unit school showed large difference in estimated values, depending on the method to estimate reliability and estimated value showed large difference, depending on the length and attribute of test and forms of group composition. This study showed that the value varies considerably, depending on the method to estimate reliability of knowledge tests in physical education. It was verified that the estimated value of reliability of group with many questions of knowledge tests, heterogeneous items and student's high record was high.
