프로축구선수의 평점과 경기력 평가 점수체계의 비교

본 연구의 목적은 프로축구경기 종료 후 미디어 매체에서 발표하는 평점의 매체 간 특성을 탐색하고, 선행연구들에서 제시한 축구선수 경기력 평가 점수체계와 미디어 매체 평점 간의 관계를 확인하여 각 점수체계의 특성을 비교하는 것이다. 평점에 영향을 미치는 요인을 탐색하기 위해 중다회귀분석을 실시하여 매체 간 평점의 특성을 비교하였고, 미디어 매체의 평점과 선행연구들에서 제시한 축구선수 경기력 평가 점수체계와의 관계를 살펴보기 위하여 상관분석을 실시하였다. 상관분석 결과는 산점도로 시각화하여 제시하였으며, 각 점수체계 상위 10명의 분포를 확인하여 각 점수체계의 특성을 논의하였다. 중다회귀분석 결과 후스코어드닷컴 평점 회귀모형(Model 1)의 경우 설명력(R-Square)이 0.84, 독립변수의 유의성은 포지션 구분 더미변수의 미드필더를 제외한 모든 변수가 평점과 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 스카이스포츠 평점 회귀모형(Model 2)의 경우 설명력이 0.30으로 같은 독립변수를 투입하였음에도 두 모형의 설명력 차이는 크게 나타났다. 독립변수의 유의성 또한 Model 2에서는 득점(t=3.22, p=.001), 도움(t=3.58, p=<.001), 패스(t=2.19, p=0.03), 인터셉트(t=2.30, p=0.02)에서만 통계적 유의성을 보였다. 상관분석 결과 가장 높은 상관계수를 보인 조합은 후스코어드닷컴의 평점과 Mchale, Scarf와 Folker(2012)의 연구에서 제시한 점수체계로 상관계수는 0.77을 기록하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다양한 미디어 매체에서 제공하는 축구선수 평점의 타당성에 대한 논의와 더불어 학계에서 제시한 다양한 축구선수 경기력 평가 모형의 특성을 비교 분석하였다는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다.
Abstract
In this study, we examine various ratings for professional soccer players announced by media and compare them with evaluation models for the performance of soccer players suggested in the preceding studies to determine the characteristics and the validity of those ratings and performance evaluation models. First of all, we conduct the multiple regression analysis to find the factors determining the ratings of media, which reflect the characteristics of each rating. Next, we conduct the correlation analysis to compare the ratings of media and the performance evaluation models suggested in the preceding studies, whose results are presented as scatter plots. Each rating and evaluation model shows a different distribution of the top-10 players, which is used to characterize each rating and evaluation model. According to the multiple regression analysis, the R-Square of Model 1 by WhoScored is 0.87. Most of the independent variables except the Position dummy variable for mid-fielder turn out to be statistically significant. On the other hand, the R-Square of Model 2 by Skysports is 0.30, which is much smaller than that of Model 1 in spite of the same independent variables used. In addition, only Goals, Assists, Passes, and the Intercepts show statistical significance for Model 2. In the correlation analysis, the highest correlation coefficient is 0.77, which is found between the WhoScored rating and the performance evaluation model of Mchale, Scarf & Folker (2012). The result of this study will be meaningful as it diagnoses the validity of various ratings of media for professional soccer players by investigating their statistical characteristics and comparing them with the performance evaluation models proposed in preceding research.
