Abstract

Traditionally, researchers used null hypothesis testing to test the research hypothesis and determined the significance of the results based on the p-value. However, the null hypothesis significance testing involves some problems. First, statistical significance can be easily changed according to the number of cases. Second, the null hypothesis testing excludes the possibility of uncertainty. The Bayesian statistical analysis method has been suggested by many researchers as one of the analytical methods that can address the limitations of null hypothesis testing. Recently, Bayesian statistical analysis has been frequently applied in the field of kinesiology overseas; yet, its practical application to research remains limited in Korea. Therefore, we introduced Bayesian statistical analysis. To this end, we presented examples of Bayesian correlation analysis, Bayesian ANOVA, and Bayesian repeated measures ANOVA using the JASP statistics program. The amount of time and efforts required to understand and apply new analytical methods may hinder access to the use of Bayesian statistical analysis. To address these concerns, this study covered the Bayesian statistical analysis as practically as possible. Considering the possibility of overcoming the problems of traditional null hypothesis testing of Bayesian statistical analysis, Bayesian statistical analysis should be dealt with continuously. We expect that the inclusion of easy-to-understand examples of the Bayesian statistical analysis may offer the readers to the usefulness of this alternative to the way in which they can analyze and interpret their data.
