Abstract
This study analyzes the remote teaching competencies of social studies teachers and influencing factors based on the 「Seoul Education Longitudinal Study 2020」 survey. The participants of this study are 281 social studies teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools in Seoul who participated in the first year (2021) of the longitudinal survey. Researchers used SPSS 20.0 to conduct descriptive statistics, group comparison tests (t-test and ANOVA), and multiple regression analysis to examine the characteristics of four subdomains of remote teaching competency and their influencing factors. The findings revealed that the overall remote teaching competency of the social studies teachers and three subdomains—use of technology and tools, development of instructional materials, and online communication with students—were significantly lower than those of other core subject teachers. Among the social studies teachers, overall remote teaching competency and the three subdomains of technology and tool use, instructional material development, and ethical considerations varied according to teaching experience. Multiple regression analysis identified key influencing factors: teaching experience of 25 years or more, conflicts with students, and workload related to lesson preparation and administrative tasks had negative associations, while relationships with parents showed a positive association. These findings provide empirical evidence and implications for the future educational competencies of social studies teachers.
