한국판 중년 남성의 전문적 도움 추구 방해물 척도 타당화 연구

초록

본 연구에서는 중년 남성들이 전문적 도움 추구를 꺼리는 이유를 측정하는 남성의 전문적 도움 추구 방해물 척도(Barriers to Help Seeking Scale: BHSS)를 한국어로 번안하고 타당화하였다. 이를 위해 40세~64세 남성을 대상으로 온라인 설문을 실시한 후, 첫 번째 표본(200명)을 대상으로 탐색적 요인분석과 신뢰도 분석을 실시하고, 두 번째 표본(288명)을 대상으로 확인적 요인분석과 타당도 검증을 실시하였다. 탐색적 요인분석을 실시한 결과, 15개 문항, 5개의 하위요인(강한 사람으로 보이고 싶은 욕구, 사생활 및 감정을 드러내고 싶지 않은 욕구, 자율성에 대한 욕구, 경제적 장벽, 문제의 최소화와 단념)이 도출되었다. 다음으로, 확인적 요인분석을 실시한 결과, 탐색적 요인분석에서 도출된 15개 문항, 5요인 모형이 적합한 것으로 드러났다. 다음으로, 한국판 BHSS(K-BHSS)의 내적 신뢰도, 수렴타당도 및 동시타당도를 검증한 결과 모두 양호한 것으로 확인되었다. 구체적으로, K-BHSS는 성역할 갈등과 자기 낙인 그리고 기존의 전문적 도움 추구 척도와 유의한 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 본 연구의 의의 및 한계점, K-BHSS 활용과 향후 연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this present study was to validate the Barriers to Help Seeking Scale (BHSS) among a sample of Korean middle-aged men. The BHSS is designed to measure reasons men identify for not seeking professional help for mental health problems. Two separate samples comprising 200 and 288 middle-aged men, respectively, were analyzed. Exploratory and confirmatory analyses identified a 15-item, 5-factor (Need to Appear Strong, Need for Not Revealing Privacy and Emotions, Need for Autonomy, Economic Barriers, and Problem Minimization and Resignation) model. The Korean Version of the Barriers to Help Seeking Scale (K-BHSS) demonstrated satisfactory internal reliability, convergent validity, and concurrent validity. Specifically, the K-BHSS was significantly associated with measures of gender-role conflict, self-stigma, and professional help seeking. The study concludes with a discussion of its limitations, the potential uses of the K-BHSS, and directions for future research.
