溪南 崔琡民의 四書學에 대한 일고찰 − 蘆沙 奇正鎭과 주고받은 問目에 대한 분석을 중심으로 −

Abstract

The doctrines of Chu-tzu was a core principle that maintained the Joseon dynasty. Both bureaucrats and scholars considered the doctrines of Chu-tzu a milestone for their way of living and scholarship. Furthermore, commoners also relied on principles of the doctrines of Chu-tzu as their guidance of practical ethics. Scholars of the Chu-tzu school obtained their knowledge on the essence of the doctrines of Chu-tzu through learning of Ju Ja's annotations of the scriptures. In this regard, Munmok, a way of learning, deserves special attention. Munmok refers to a collection of scholarly letters exchanging questions and answers between scholars about the scriptures and Ju Ja's annotations of the scriptures. Originating from Toegye, Yi Hwang and his students and continuing until the latter part of the Joseon dynasty, Munmok was used as a method of teaching and learning of the doctrines of Chu-tzu among scholars of the Ju Ja school. Munmok between Ki, Jeong-Jin and Choi, Suk-Min specifically shows a typical trend of the learning process between scholars. The Munmok between them evidently demonstrates the student's inheritance of the master's theory. In conclusion, Munmok was used as a method of inheriting and further strengthening the master's theory as well as learning the doctrines of Chu-tzu in the Joseon dynasty.
