Abstract
The event which brought on a physical common point between Korea and Vietnam was the Vietnam War. Not only did the Vietnam War become the definitive starting point of the world-wide anti-war movements, but for the people of Korea, it gave them great many stories to talk about. Even after a generation has past, and with its limitations of its basis being the misery of a war, the Vietnam War still takes place in the center of many discussions in Korea. Then, we can now question the reason behind its constant reproduction. May be it is because Korea has not yet been able to erase the remaining traces of the war completely. In the context of Korean literature, the subject of the Vietnam War has a unique meaning, which cannot be seen in other genres. This is especially so because this was the only war where Koreans were involved as one of the offenders. It is notable that the views on the war the Korean novels portray have been changing with the change of times. And as the novels progress nearer to the current times, we can see that the views of the self expand to the views of them, and the views of us. Behind such changes probably lie the deep thoughts and self examinations of the Koreans on the Vietnam War. Thus this research seeks to bring to surface the process and expansion of Korean’s views on the Vietnam War, based on a series of novels that have a Korean soldier in the Vietnam War as their main characters.
