분단국가 한국의 DMZ(비무장지대)는 세계사적인 동서 냉전의 대립과 6.25전쟁의 산물로 탄생했다. 그런데 이곳은 한시적 평화를 뜻하는 정전협정 이후 60년에 가까운 세월의 경과 속에서 자연적으로 생태적 회복을 이룩하면서 멸종 위기에 처한 동식물을 비롯하여 많은 생물종을 거느리고 있다. 오늘날의 DMZ는 평화와 생태의 가치를 함께 구비하고 있는 셈이다. DMZ는 개발의 파고에서 벗어나 온전한 보전이 이루어질 수 있어야 하는데, 이를 위해 필자는 생태평화의 철학적 기초를 제시하고자 한다. 이것에 따르면, 인간은 자유로운 존재이자 사회 공동체의 구성원으로서 이웃과 협력하여 사회적 평화를 이룩하고 그리고 인간의 문화가 자연에 구조적 폭력을 행사하지 않을 뿐만 아니라 자연의 생명부양 체계를 존중함으로써 사회가 생태적으로 지속가능할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 이런 인도주의적 생태평화의 철학에 의거하여 향후 DMZ를 보전하는 방안을 찾아야 한다.
Abstract
DMZ(Demilitarized Zone) of the Korean peninsular in a state of division has been born as a byproduct of the June 25th war of Korea and the worldwide Cold War. DMZ has had a long time since the conclusion of an armistice agreement that means temporary peace between south and north Korea. By the way, the ecosystem of DMZ has been restoring naturally with the lapse of time, and thus has the various biota that contains endangered species. We will evaluate that DMZ has the peaceful value and the ecological value together. I will suggest the philosophical foundations for ecological peace in order to prevent DMZ from developing and protect the ecological value. According to my views, human should establish a social peace in the form of cooperation with the neighborhood as free entities on the one hand and members of social community on the other hand, and the cultures of human being must not only put an end to the structural violence of nature but also make up one's own society ecologically sustainable by means of respecting the life–supporting system of nature. On the basis of the philosophy of humanitarian eco–peace, we should find the way to preserve the ecosystem and the biota of DMZ.
