본 연구의 목적은 미디어(Media) 기술의 발전이 만든 인공적 환경이 인간의 삶에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는지를 연구하는 큰 기획에 따라 이루어졌다. 본 논고를 통해 논자는 현대 미디어 기술이 만든 환경이 인간의 인식 방식을 변화시키고 있다는 주장을 제기할 것이다. 그리고 이 주장에 대한 문제의식을 가지고서, 인간의 인식 방식의 변화에 대한 환경철학적 관점의 비판적 고찰을 시도할 것이다. 이 연구의 과정에서 미디어 환경에 의해 변화 되는 인간의 인식 방식을 우리들이 어떻게 해석해야 할 것인지에 대한 새로운 관점의 담론을 전개할 것이다. 그리고 본 논고에서 논의의 핵심을 전개하는 데에는 현대의 미디어 기술에 중요한 논의의 틀을 제시한, 마셜 맥루언(Marshall Mcluhan)의 주장과 예시적 설명들을 참고할 것이며, 아울러 그에 대한 해석을 제시할 것이다. 세부적인 연구 내용 및 논의 전개는 크게 다음과 같은 세 단계로 다루어질 것이다. 첫째, ‘환경’에 대한 새로운 연구 관점의 변화가 필요함을 서술할 것이다. 둘째, 미디어 기술이 만든 인공적 환경에 의해 변화되는 인간의 인식 방식에 대한 새로운 담론을 제기할 것이다. 미디어 기술에 대한 마셜 맥루언의 독창적인 문제의식을 함께 고찰 하면서, 이를 그의‘미디어는 메시지이다.’는 명제를 통해 제기할 것이다. 셋째, 미디어 기술에 대한 맥루언의 비판적 관점이 담긴 감각 마비의 가능성에 대해 환경철학적 관점의 비판적 고찰을 전개할 것이다. 위와 같은 논의 전개를 토대로, 결론적으로, 논자는 미디어 기술이 변화시킨 인간의 인식 방식에 대한 실천적․반성적 비판의 중요성을 강조할 것이다. 그리고 ‘지구촌’ 환경 속 인간의 미래에 대한 우리의 관심과 비판적 고찰이 오늘날 강하게 요구된다는 점을 강조할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was based on a large project to study how the artificial environment created by the development of media technology affects human life. Through this article, the author will raise the argument that the environment created by modern media technology is changing human perception. And I will make critical review the environmental philosophical perspective on changes of human perception method, with the consciousness of the problem. In this study, we will develop a new perspective on how we should interpret human perception that is changed by the media environment. In this paper, the author will refer to Marshall McLuhan's arguments and illustrative explanations, which provide a framework for important discussions of contemporary media technology, and to give an interpretation of them in developing the core of the discussion. The details of the research and the development of the discussion will be largely dealt with in the following three stages. First, it will describe the need for a change in the new research perspective on 'the environment'. Second, it will raise a new discourse on human perception method that is changed by artificial environment created by modern media technology. While considering Marshall McLaren's original problematic awareness of media technology, it will be argued through his proposition that "media is a message." Third, I will develop a critical review of the environmental philosophical viewpoint on the possibility of the sensory paralysis that contains McLuhan's critical viewpoint on media technology. Based on the above discussion, the writer will emphasize the importance of practical and reflective criticism of human perception that media technology has changed. We will also emphasize that our interest and critical review of the future of human beings in a 'global village' environment is strongly demanded today.
