Credit unions are cooperative financial institutions organized to meet the needs of their members. As the credit crisis continues to spiral through the world's economies, small financial institutions such as credit unions should focus on managing their capital adequacy for survival. This study aims to figure out antecedents to capital adequacy of credit unions. Financial statements data in 2011 from 671 Korean regional credit unions are used to conduct statistical analysis. We find that credit unions with residential common bonds have some differences in size, asset operation, loan operation, and antecedents to capital adequacy by location regions.
