5.18 의례음악의 특성과 변화의양상

Abstract

There are special traits and transforming aspects in the 5.18 ceremonial music. The May Ceremony (5.18 Ceremony) was started as an uninstitutional resistance movement, then it became institutionalized ceremonies of the memorial ceremony and the commemoration. First, two people's popular songs, which had been continuously sung in the uninstitutional resistance movements for years, became the ceremonial musics in the May Ceremony. Second, a military band plays music in the commemoration, the institutionalized ceremony, while the Korean traditional music orchestra helped the memorial ceremony. Furthermore, as time goes by, the more varied and sublimated songs are played in the May Ceremony.Suggestions are made for exercising the May Ceremony better as follows:1. Due to it has the symbolistic meaning, the Korean traditional music orchestra, should play a central role in the May Ceremony.2. To reinforce the original identity of the May Ceremony, it is necessary to play music with the 5.18 spirit than playing music which are nothing to do with 5.18.3. To make and spread exuberant May Culture of 5.18 resistance movement, it is necessary to create, produce, and perform the new and various music in the May Ceremony.In spite of its imperfection, it is true that the 5.18 ceremony music has been led the resistance culture in Korea. Therefore, the 5.18 ceremony music needs to be developed continuously so that it could be a standard or a model for other resistance ceremonies.
