Abstract

This article is about future goals based on the status of investigation, collecting, and arrangement of historical manuscripts by National Institute of Korean History. The institution has been progressing this historical manuscripts task since 1980. The law on the collecting and maintenance of historical materials is made in 1987. The introduction of this law helped local government to establish the institution of investigating historical materials and brought signs of life to this historical field. Since 1997, a state enterprise which supports research expenses has been established by collecting thesis due to the growth of collecting and investigation of historical materials. This enterprise is focused on activating local institution of investigating historical materials which is in each provinces, arranging undiscovered historical materials, offering research outputs to the academic world, intensive collection of historical materials by regional and subject categories. It has obtained optimistic results. Since 2000, the collection of historical materials by National Institute of Korean History has been expended to modern historical materials and even oral statements. And also, to activate collecting and investigation of historical materials and persue substantial research, a domestic work shop tour is held and this gives more chances to study hard to local institution of investigating historical materials. Collected materials is itemized by putting in 16 menus which is necessary to search and use those materials. Nowadays, the integrated microfilm manager program is set up on the intranet to utilize those materials. When investigating and arranging, and input of information is done, those materials are photographed by using MF cameras and scanner, or digitalized into CD or DVD. These outputs are offered to readers. Some of those materials collected by National institute of Korean History are printed by phototypography or made into printing letters. The materials published so far are most journals. These published materials are much more less than collected materials. From now on, a lot of people and budget is need to publish collected materials. And also, an easy way to access to those categorized collected materials must be offered through supporting works.
