조선 후기 草謄錄의 성격과 사료적 가치

Abstract

This paper is written to discover the existence of Cho-Deungrok(草謄錄, Drafts of public archives in Joseon dynasty's administration) in the late Joseon and to examine its characteristics and historical value. For this purpose, We reviewed the existence and role of Cho-Deungrok which in historical materials such as Sillok(實錄, The Annals of the Joseon) and analyzed several existing Cho-Deungrok in the late Joseon. Cho-Deungrok were a sort of draft of Deungrok. These drafts were able to use in the similar way to the Deungrok. It were even used as a substitute of Deungrok if those were absence. Cho-Deungrok were almost not kept and managed, However, Because they were considered as just draft. Most of the extant Cho-Deungrok were written regardless of standardized format or font. It is also noteworthy that the corrections were directly written in Cho-Deungrok, so that it could be reffered to in the creation of the revised Deungrok. The value of Cho-Deungrok are not only as drafts of Deungrok. Cho-Deungrok were made and used officially which different from other drafts of general records. This situation proves that Deungrok were not a mere archives at the level of just copying and writing original documents. In other words, Cho-Deungrok are a means to examine a part of Deungrok System which is the records and archives management system of late Joseon, and they can be historical materials showing that Deungrok are archives with a certain status in the public archives system in Joseon.
