Abstract

This paper examines the current status, issues, and future prospects of ancient documents in the Jeonbuk region. The ancient documents in the Jeonbuk region are largely divided into two sectors to examine the problems. One is investigation, collection, and organization; the other is digitization. In particular, a large number of old documents from the Jeonbuk region have been digitized and archived in An Internet System for Honam Recording Culture and the Center for Korean Studies Data in the Honam region. In the long term, the materials from the two sites should be integrated and provided to the public. To be sure, financial and technical issues must be taken into consideration when integrating the two sites. For this purpose, it is necessary to pay attention to the Institute of Jeonla Confucian Culture, which will be established in the future. Regarding the institute, a comprehensive plan is needed to collect, organize, manage, and digitize the document data of the Jeonbuk region that are in danger of being damaged or lost. Through this, a comprehensive information database on regional ancient documents should be established to form the foundation for in-depth regional studies. The public demand for historical and cultural content should be met by providing a variety of high-quality information that can be utilized through various processing methods and storytelling about ancient documents. In conclusion, a new understanding and strategy for ancient documents is needed to maximize the value of historical and cultural resources in the Jeonbuk region.
