본 연구는 기업에게도 환경의 중요성이 강조되고 있는 시점에서 언론이나 단속기관에 의해 공시되는 기업의 환경오염행위에 대한 정보가 주식시장에서 정보효과를 지니는지를 알아보고자 한다. 연구방법은 기업의 환경관련에 대한 언론이나 환경부의 부정적 공시에 대하여 주가와 주식거래량의 변화량을 살펴봄으로서 그 결과를 검토해 보고자 한다. 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 기업의 환경오염행위에 대한 정보를 언론보도와 환경부의 적발결과 공시일을 기준으로 전 10일에서 후 10일까지 총 21일에 초과수익률과 주식거래량을 살펴보았다. 환경오염 행위에 대한 언론보도 및 환경부 적발결과 공시에 대한 초과수익률과 누적초과수익률은 모두 통계적으로 유의하지 않았으나, 주식거래량은 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 환경오염 행위에 대한 정보는 언론보도의 경우 주가반응과 주식거래량 모두 동일한 형태를 취하지만, 환경부의 적발에 대해서는 주가반응과 주식거래량의 형태가 다르게 나타났다.
Abstract
This paper demonstrates the information impact of environmental contamination behaviors of firms disclosed by the press or supervising institutions in stock market. Abnormal return and stock trade volume are examined for a total 21days before and after each ten days from disclosure day of the supervision results of information of environment contamination behaviors of firm in press report and by the Ministry of Environment. The results are as followed. Firstly, abnormal return regarding disclosure and cumulation abnormal return are not all significant statistically but stock trade volume is statistically significant. Secondly, information regarding environment contamination behavior has the same patterns for all reaction of stock price and stock trade volume in case of press report but regarding disclosure of the Ministry of Environment, patterns of reaction of stock price and stock trade volume appear differently.
