As the complexity of weapon systems increases due to the acceleration of technological developments, the types of parts are also diversified. Increasing types of parts used in weapon systems entails difficulties in parts information management, procurement difficulties, stock management and increased costs, because no optimized method has been established from the initial parts selection stage. Advanced countries in the defense and aerospace industry, including the United States, are considering and institutionalizing parts management plans, including preferred parts list to reduce total ownership cost and to improve reliability and quality. Through this review, the contents of the preferred parts list and parts management plan will be reviewed first, and the development plans of parts management in the national defense industry will be derived.
