대학교 교양 영작문 수업의 학습자 영작문과 생성형 AI 기계번역 결과물의 비교를 통한 학습 방안 제시

본 연구는 대학교 교양 영작문 수업에서 학습자가 직접 작성한 영작문과 AI 기계 번역기를 사용한 결과물을 비교하여 어형적, 통사적, 어휘적 차이점을 분석하고 영어 글쓰기 수업의 학습 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 학습자는 한국 고등 교육 과정에서 체육 수업 확대에 대한 찬반 의견을 한 단락의 국문으로 작성한 후 영작한 결과물과 DeepL Translate(이하 딥엘)로 번역한 결과물을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 학습자의 영작문은 관사 및 한정사의 오류 및 동사의 형태적 오류와 시제 오류 등이 발견되었으며, 통사적 측면에서는 학습자의 글이 단순하고 직접적 문장이 많고, 딥엘은 복문과 다양한 접속사를 활용하여 풍부한 문장을 생성하였다. 어휘 사용면에서 학습자 작문은 어휘의 부적절한 선택과 반복이 사용이 빈번하게 발견되었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 초급 학습자의 영어 글쓰기 교육에서는 관사 및 한정사 사용, 동사의 다양한 형태와 기능, 어휘의 적절한 선택과 반복 회피, 복문 작성 연습 등을 강조할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.
Abstract
This study aims to compare and analyze the morphological, syntactic, and lexical differences between English texts written by students and those generated using AI machine translation (DeepL) in a university-level English composition course. The research involved writing a paragraph in Korean expressing opinions on the expansion of physical education in the Korean high school curriculum, then translating it into English manually and using DeepL. The analysis revealed that student-written texts exhibited frequent errors in articles and determiners, verb forms, and tense usage, indicating significant morphological differences. Lexically, inappropriate word choices and repetitions were common in student writings. Syntactically, student texts tended to be simpler and more direct, while machine translations produced more complex sentences with varied conjunctions. Based on these findings, the study suggests emphasizing the correct use of articles and determiners, various verb forms, appropriate word choice, and the practice of writing complex sentences using conjunctions in English writing education.
