Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest measures to improve the rules of spinning kick match in freestyle poomsae of taekwondo. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with trainers who had been teaching freestyle poomsae, taekwondo players and national gymnastics team players who evaluated artistry, complexity of moves and accuracy in sports similar to freestyle poomsae matches, and the following results were derived: First, like the evaluation items of gymnastics, it is required to develop a score system by technique so that players can gain extra scores when performing high-level techniques. Although spinning kick in freestyle poomsae is evaluated by the spin angle, there are no specific or clear rules. Second, it is necessary to give extra points according to the height of kicks. Just like the taekwondo kyorugi match or official poomsae games, it is required to evaluate players differently according to the height of kicks. In this way, the objectivity and credibility of spinning kick evaluation can be increased. Third, there should be evaluation items for landing after spinning kicks. In taekwondo, a score system for landing is necessary to evaluate the stable moves and completeness after technical kicks. Fourth, the mid-air performance of spinning kicks should be evaluated. Considered accurate technical moves in taekwondo, kicks should be prioritized by evaluating the angle of the knee, the trajectory of the kick, the accuracy, etc.
