The Specificity and methodology for Modern Korean Language Study

This study set out to specify what should be taken into account in modern Korean study and propose desirable research directions for it based on the problematic consciousness that a period of purpose-driven operations(namely Korean planning and arrangement) in Korean should be included in the period of modern Korean. The work of devising ways to unify the language or the standardization process was a process of selectively choosing certain linguistic elements according to certain goals and criteria, sometimes moving towards the convergence of natural changes and moving against those changes other times. Thus it is required to consider the purpose-driven operations implemented in the process of changes to the inside of the language and standardization at the same time in order to understand the process of the foundation for modern Korean being formed. Chapter 2 would examine the specificity of modern Korean study through the issues of the subject of national language and that of national language arrangement and the issues of the principles of Korean arrangement. Chapter 3 would explore the methodologies for modern Korean study from a perspective of regarding the history of modern Korean as a process of Korean establishment. However limited the discussions might be, the study will hopefully create an opportunity to newly explore the subjects and methods of modern Korean language study.
