초록
This paper aims to take a look on formulaic expressions for academic writing from four different disciplines, namely humanities, social studies, science, and engineering, as well as to describe their similarities and differences. Four POS-tagged corpora were built to meet such goals, with randomly extracted samples from each discipline. N-grams, from 4-gram to 8-gram, were extracted to identify formulaic expressions of each discipline. While previous studies on formulaic expression relied on frequency as the main criterion, current study employed t-score as a supplementary measure for determining key expressions for each discipline. By comparing top 30 items from frequency list and t-score list, it was found that certain expressions are prevalent in the fields such as Humanities, Science, and Engineering, while such tendency was hard to find from Social Science articles.
