초록

This paper investigates how former President Trump and current President Bidenare represented through the prism of the ‘us’ and ‘them’ construction byanalyzing the Democratic Party’s official commentaries. I also draw uponKenneth Burke' Dramatism Theory in order to examine the way in which theDemocratic Party casts former President Trump as a villain and President Bidenas a hero. The analysis shows four strategies employed to realize positive-Bidenrepresentation and negative-Trump representation. This paper serves as politicaldiscourse analysis and proposes that political discourse has two characteristics. Lastly, this paper attempts to reveal that a binary strategy of ‘us’ and ‘them’ inpolitical discourse may not be efficient as intended as the Democratic Party’sevaluation may come across partial and one-sided to its readers.
