본 논문은 한국의 정보통신산업에서 신생 중소 제조업체의 생존율과 생존에 영향을 주는 요인을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이를 위해서 본 논문에서는 IT 산업에서 2000년에서 2002년까지 신규로 설립된 중소 제조업체를 대상으로 해저드 모형을 이용한 생존분석을 시행하였다. 분석결과에 따르면, 설립 후 4년이 지나면서 기업의 퇴출율은 급격히 감소하고 있음이 발견되었고, 5년 이상 생존한 기업들은 4년 이내에 퇴출된 기업들에 비해서 기업의 설립 및 현재 규모, 성장성, 수익성, 그리고 유동성에서 유의적인 차이를 보이고 있다. 또한 신생 기업의 생존에 영향을 주는 기업 변수로는 진입 규모 및 현재 규모, 그리고 성장률이 생존과 정(+)의 상관관계를 보여주었다. 산업 변수로는 신규 기업의 진입율이 낮고 시장집중도가 높을수록 신생 중소기업의 생존율이 높았다. 그러나 5년 이상 생존한 기업들만을 대상으로 분석했을 때에는 기업의 현재 규모와 수익성 및 안정성이 생존에 유의적인데 비해서 진입 규모와 성장성은 더 이상 생존에 영향을 주지 않았다. 반면에 산업변수는 동일한 결과를 보여주었다.
Abstract
In this study, I used a hazard model to examine the survival rate and the determinants of new SMEs(small and medium enterprises) in Korean IT(information technology) industry. The results show the exit rate decreased drastically since about 4 years after the firms had entered the market. And the firms whose life duration was below 4 years and the ones whose life duration was above 5 years were significantly different in their size, the growth rate, profitability, and liquidity. In addition, as the firm-specific variables, the initial and the current firm size, the growth rate, and profitability had positive influences on survival of the new SMEs. And the survival rate was high in the industries with low market entry rate or high market concentration ratio as the industry-specific variables. But when the hazard model was applied to the firms whose life duration was above 5 years, some differences were found in the result. While the industry-specific variables had the same effects as before, the firm-specific variables didn't. The current firm size, profitability and stability were significant in survival, but the initial firm size and the growth rate were no longer significant.
