현대중국에서 賀麟(1902-1992)은 독일철학 전문학자로 알려져 있다. 본 논문은 현대신유학의 ‘송명유학’에 주목하여 賀麟의 宋明儒學 중 주자학과 관련된 賀麟의 주장이 타당한지를 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 賀麟 철학에서 朱子學과 象山學은 자신의 철학 체계를 구성하는데 내용적으로 매우 중요한 부분을 차지한다. 賀麟에 의하면, 朱子의 ‘태극’은 두 가지 의미가 있다. 첫째, 천지만물의 理를 가리킨다. 둘째, 太極은 心과 理의 合一 전체 혹은 靈明한 경지를 가리킨다. 宋儒의 직각설에 대해 賀麟은 ‘직각’을 이지적 공감(intellectual sympathy[同情])을 이용하여 사물을 세심하게 관찰하는 것과 이지적 사랑(intellectual love)으로 사물을 완미하는 것 둘로 나누었다. 그리고 전자를 다시 ‘외부 관찰’과 ‘내부 성찰’ 둘로 나누어, 전자를 ‘투시식 직각’이라 하고 후자를 ‘반성식 직각’이라고 했다. 朱子의 직각은 ‘투시식 직각’이다. 필자는 투시식 직각의 방법론을 차용하여 ‘격물궁리적 직각’이라고 했다. 이상 두 가지 논의를 통해 賀麟이 주장하고 한 것은 ‘心理合一’이었다. 그러나 주자철학의 핵심인 心에 대한 이해 부족으로 賀麟이 주장한 주자의 ‘心理合一’과 ‘태극의 심리합일 경지’는 주자학에도 부합하지 않는다. 따라서 宋儒를 통해 자신의 철학을 확립하고자 했던 자신의 목적도 이루지 못했다고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
According to He-Lin, Taiji in Zhu-xi has two meanings. First, it refers to the Li of heaven and earth. Second, Taiji refers to the whole of the combination of Mind and Li, or the state of sophistication. Regarding the Intuition Theory, He-lin divided ‘Intuition’ into two parts: observing things carefully using intellectual sympathy and completing things with intellectual love. ‘External observation’ is called ‘perspective intuition’, and ‘internal reflection’ is called ‘reflective intuition’. Zhu-xi’s is ‘perspective intuition’. I borrowed the methodology of perspective intuition and called it ‘gewu qiongli-style(the investigation of phenomena and the full comprehension of their underlying principles) intuition’. Through the two discussions above, what Xi argued and did was ‘Mind and Li are one’. However, due to the lack of understanding of Mind, which is the core of Zhu-xi’s philosophy, Zhu-xi’s ‘Mind and Li are one’ and Taiji’s ‘Mind and Li are one’, which He-lin argued, are also in the Zhu-xi philosophy. Therefore, it can be said that he did not achieve his purpose of establishing his own philosophy through Song Dynasty Confucianism.
