Abstract

D'Annunzio's novel, "Il fuoco"(1900), presents symbols and contrasts through allegories based on motifs from Greek mythology. The allegories that appear throughout the work will help us understand the author's vision of the work, as similar motifs can be found in poetry and novels. This study unfolds through the cyclical allegory of life and death seen through Greek mythology, the allegory of salvation through death, allegory through pictorial metaphor, and the resolution of irony. This novel is not composed of the unfolding of events, but rather, like a play or a poem, it expresses the lover's longing for Venice and his beloved through symbols and allegories. This novel contains a variety of materials and motifs, and the author has expressed them in poetic language. The reader must read the text at a pace similar to that of a poem and must also grasp the symbols and allegorical irony expressed by D'Annunzio to fully understand this novel. The Renaissance painters of the Venetian school, Tiziano and Giorgione, presented the glory of Venice. Carpaccio's work revealed the poetics of ‘Infanzia’. Silence, stillness, and reflection resolve irony. Through the allegory of contrasting themes, the artist revealed the glory of Latin people of the past and sought to restore Italian authenticity.
