초록
We investigated efficient utilization of shiitake mushroom medium as a sustainable biomass fuel to address rural heating needs and enhance waste management in Korea. To render shiitake mushroom media suitable for use as a fuel, its calorific value and stability during combustion must be increased. A torrefaction study aimed at meeting these requirements increased calorific value from 3,310 kcal/kg of raw material to a maximum of 4,880 kcal/kg in the processing temperature range 150 to 300°C. A washing process using citric acid, which is an acid catalyst, was used to remove potassium and chlorine, which are the main causes of fouling and high-temperature corrosion inside boilers during combustion. Washing with citric acid at 80°C for 10 min removed potassium and chlorine with respective efficiencies of 72.31% and 83.57%. The above results confirm that proper torrefaction and acid-washing can improve the fuel quality of shiitake mushroom media. Further research is planned to study and optimize the integration of torrefaction and acid-washing processes.
