Abstract

<Why the tiger goes to the sea?> <The snow traveller> of Yun Dae Nyeong show that the ‘Death Instincts’ in the human beings themselves is an agent for the life instincts and also a motive to create a new will through the death illusion in the daily life. Because this is a death instincts of his inner side. The death instincts is mixed in the daily life as an unknown ‘apparitional’ mechanism. The will for the life instincts of ‘Yeong Bin’ to overcome the death instincts surfaces by the Thing recognition in the ‘sea’. ‘Yeong Bin’ realizes that the tide time, which seems always fixed, is at work by an unknown power and finally that's the nature of the sea. Then, by this, he reaches the realization that his daily life is also the result of this will effect. while, ‘I’ and ‘He’ the point of view described as <The snow traveller>shows the travel of ‘I’ as a speaker wandering in the snowy fields of the Akita Prefecture for finding a child crying in the snow. The ‘young children’ is a self-reflective. And more than a few meters of snow in Akita, cloudy landscape of red light station, restaurant, such as and baby crying, old world hotel and eyes are revealed in the dim light ‘or’ primitive experience is reflected of death illusion. welcome death. ‘Baby’, ‘sea’, ‘snowy’ of the Thing in the novel, are signifiers as symbol of such death illusion. There never could stare death in front of him as well as glimpse it through would death illusion.
