Abstract
Frequent usages of digital technologies in contemporary photography can be presented as the photographic bequest of new ways representing reality that does not exist. While the birth of photography as the representative of mechanical reproduction has implied uses of technology for art since the early period, the traditional photography and the digital photography induce conflicts based on conventional notions, and aesthetic discourses on photography might be located in the pitfall, on the one hand. On the other hand, media artists utilize the product and its environment, induce the interactivity with the viewer and direct the enjoyment of the real. At the center of the real, the image or imagination that casts off the conventional materiality replaces the conventional image, communicating with the information that is the essence of information science technology. In this study, new possibilities in the deviating and expanding concept of real and contemporary art media are suggested through motivating interpretations of real in the preceeding contemporary photography. And this study reveals that the computer based media artwork and its environment are making changes in concepts of the real in the artwork.
