Abstract
This study aims to make clear the point of view on the photography through the analysis of Shin Nakkyun’s four books, written in twenties that are considered as the first Korean books about the photography. To begin with, we define the concept of “science”in general sense; with the help of this concept, we then analyze the four books. The author has defined the proper object of the study on photography, identified its methods, and distinguished its domains. In addition, he has presented, going with the current of the pictorialism, the new print methods that can constitute the base of the artistic photography and treated the theory of photography. His four books have contributed to the acceptance of the photography as a specialized domain and provided a turning point for the advanced photographic culture in Korea
