초록
This paper visits a series of cultural flow in and around the exhibition <The Family of Man> in S. Korea in 1957 and explores the perspective of American power-knowledge related in the birth of this exhibition, for the purpose that we can retrace the phenomenon of the formation of social vision during Cold War which made it possible to form cultural map of the Americanized world. <The Family of Man> at Gyeongbokgung Museum in Seoul was held during the period when the cosmopolitanism discourses had been heightened in S. Korean society, and then the term family of man would become the signifier of cosmopolitanism. However, the cultural discourse of cosmopolitanism in and around the exhibition had the ambivalent characteristics in relationship to Americanized world vision. Hence, <The Family of Man> at Gyeongbokgung Museum had become the event to S. Korean populace, which led the convergence of Korean common ideas such as freedom, democracy, human dignity, and U.S. Therein lies Americanization of vision which re-contextualizes continuity of modernity in cultural domain. Again <The Family of Man> at Gyeongbokgung Museum was an event to S. Korean history, which made the meaning of this re-contextualization dull and normal.
