아리스토텔레스와 플라톤의 사상을 중심으로 한 유년기 도덕교육의 방법과 내용 고찰

도덕교육은 지식과 감정과 행동이라는 세 가지 차원에서 접근 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 지ㆍ정ㆍ의를 함께 고려하는 통합적 접근의 기초 위에 유아들에게 가장 적절하다고 생각되는 도덕교육의 ‘방법’과 ‘내용’을 연구하고자 하는 목적으로, 덕성이 사유의 중심 주제 가운데 하나였던 고대 그리스인들의 교육 사상을 고찰하였다. 특히 그 시대의 사상적 대변자들로 꼽을 수 있는 플라톤과 아리스토텔레스의 이론을 살펴본바, 아리스토텔레스에 따르면 유아들에게는 일차적으로 도덕적 행동을 습관화시키는 방법이 가장 효과적이었다. 그리고 내용에 있어서는, 도덕적 인간의 형성을 위하여 유년기에 문학을 포함한 음악교육이 필수적이라는 주장이 플라톤에게서 발견되었다.
Abstract
Moral education is generally approached through three dimensions: knowledge, emotion, and action. This thesis examines the content and methodology of a moral education deemed appropriate for young children and based mainly on the educational ideas of the ancient Greeks who held virtue as a main theme of rationality. According to Aristotle, assuring the habituation of moral behaviors is the most effective means of predisposing the will of young children toward proper moral behavior. As the essential content for cultivating moral human beings, Plato emphasized music education for young children which included listening to the narratives of select literature in harmony, rhythm and melody, and reciting them in the same way.
