유아교육 실습지도교사 이야기: 가르치며 배우고, 배우며 가르치기

본 연구의 목적은 유아교육실습 기간 동안 실습지도교사가 겪는 경험을 심층적으로 탐구하고 그 경험의 의미를 드러내 주는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구에서는 “인간의 경험을 연구하는데 가장 좋은 방법”(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000)인 내러티브 탐구 연구방법을 사용하였다. 18년의 유아교사경력을 지닌 김교사가 사전실습과 본실습 기간 동안 박예비교사를 지도하면서 연구자인 나 그리고 예비교사와 공유한 저널, 사전실습 전후와 본실습 전후에 세 사람이 나눈 대화, 김교사가 쓴 자서전적 글이 연구의 주 자료로 사용되었다. 김교사는 사전실습 기간 초에는 예비교사의 존재가 손님처럼 느껴졌지만 점차 실습의 목적과 각자의 역할에 대해 예비교사와 눈높이를 맞추어 가려고 노력하였다. 본실습 기간 동안 김교사는 예비교사를 교실의 협력자로 생각하며 예비교사가 스스로 실천적 지식을 구축할 수 있도록 도왔다. 뿐만 아니라 예비교사가 도움을 필요로 하는 적절한 시기에 도움을 줌으로써 줄탁동시(啐啄同時)를 실천하고 유아들을 대하는 예비교사의 모습으로부터 교사로서의 자신을 반성해 보기도 하였다. 김교사 이야기를 통해 본 연구는 실습지도가 유아교사에게 자신의 경험을 성찰할 수 있는 기회를 제공하며, 가르치며 배우고, 배우고 가르치는 과정이며, 그러한 과정을 통해 유아교사로 더욱 성장할 수 있는 기회임을 밝히고 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 실습지도교사, 예비교사, 교사교육자에게 유아교육실습의 의미를 지도교사의 입장에서 생각해 보고, 유아교육실습이 모두의 성장을 위한 학습기회가 되도록 준비, 계획, 실행할 수 있는 기회를 제공할 것이다.

Abstract

This narrative inquiry research used conversations, dialogue journals and autobiographical writing to explore one cooperating teacher’s experience and the ways in which she constructed the meaning of her cooperating teacher experience through the telling of her stories. The study reveals how the cooperating teacher collaborated with the student teacher in her classroom and developed her own personal practical knowledge as the practicum period unfolded, creating new challenges and prompting self-reflection. In its exploration of the discovery of ways to collaborate during the practicum experience for deeper understanding and efficacy, this study has implications for the improvement of the practicum experience for early childhood teacher educators, cooperating teachers, and student teachers.
