영아의 정서성 기질과 어머니의 부정 정서 간의 자기회귀교차지연 효과 검증

A study on the longitudinal relationship between mothers’ negative emotions and the emotional temperament of infants using an adapted Autoregressive Cross-lagged Model

초록

이 연구는 영아의 정서성 기질과 어머니의 부정 정서(우울, 양육 스트레스)가 시간의 경과에 따라 안정적으로 지속되는지를 밝히고, 영아의 정서성 기질과 어머니의 부정 정서 사이의 종단적 상호관계를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 육아정책연구소의 아동패널자료(2008-2010년)를 자기회귀 교차지연 모델을 적용하여 분석하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 1-3차 시점 간의 자녀의 정서성 기질과 어머니의 부정 정서 간에는 높은 상관관계가 있었다. 둘째, 1-3차 시점 간의 영아의 정서성 기질의 자기회귀 효과는 어머니의 부정 정서보다 그 효과가 다소 적지만 통계적으로 유의하였다. 셋째, 어머니의 부정 정서는 영아의 정서성 기질에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 이전 시점의 유아 정서성 기질은 이후 시점의 어머니 부정 정서에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 자녀의 정서성 기질과 어머니의 부정 정서는 일관되게 유지되는 특성을 가지고 있으며, 영아의 ‘기질’이 어머니의 정서적 특성에 따라 다르게 평가될 수 있다는 것을 시사한다. 또한, 기질 연구에서 자녀와 어머니의 상호작용을 고려해야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 이 연구는 성인들이 기질에 대한 인식을 바꾸어야 할 필요성을 제시하며, 조화적합성의 개념을 지지한다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the longitudinal reciprocal relationship between mothers’ negative emotions and the emotional temperament of infants. Three waves of panel data (2008-2010) from the Panel Study of Korean Children (Korea Institute of Child Care and Education) were analyzed in this study by an adapted Autoregressive cross-lagged modeling. The major findings are as follows. First, mothers’ depression and parenting stress significantly related to negative emotional temperaments of infants in the total 3 wave data. Second, the stability coefficient of mothers’ negative emotions and the emotional temperament of infants showed both variables to be significantly stable over time. Third, mothers’ negative emotions (t) had a statistically significant effect on the emotional temperament of infants (t+1), whereas the emotional temperament of infants did not predict mothers’ negative emotions. These findings suggest that “temperaments", can be evaluated differently depending upon the mother's emotion and that we must reconsider the interactions between a mother and her children. Because this study supports the goodness of fit of an adapted autoregressive cross-legged modeling, our findings suggest that we need to change our assumptions regarding our understanding infant temperament.
