Abstract
This study identified preservice teacher’s perception, knowledge, and related variables about computer integration, which is meaningful for predicting if preservice teachers will integrate technology in their classrooms in future. The coursework related to computer integration was designed to promote knowledge related to technology skills, curriculum content, and children’s learning and development, and was conducted for 12 weeks. In the early stages of the computer integration course, preservice teachers perceived computer use as separate from teaching practice and they showed a lack of pedagogical perspectives on computer integration. However, their focus on technology use was transformed from a teacher-centered to a child-centered teaching practice by the end of the coursework. In addition, preservice teachers’ concerns regarding Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge(TPCK) increased during coursework for computer integration whereas their focus on Technology Knowledge(TK) decreased. Of the variables related to computer integration, technological pedagogical content knowledge(TPCK) was a good predictor for computer integration by preservice teachers. In conclusion, based on this result, preservice and inservice education should provide technology skills and technology pedagogical content knowledge together so that teachers can be well prepared for computer integration in their classrooms.
