초록

In battery recycling, Mn extraction poses a significant challenge, hindering the separation and purification process of Co and Ni via solvent extraction. This study addresses this issue by employing sulfide precipitation technique to remove Mn ions from waste NCM lithium-ion batteries. The sulfate-leached solution, containing Ni, Co, and Mn ions, was initially treated with sodium sulfide (Na2S·xH2O) reagents until the pH reached 5.5. This treatment separated 86% of Mn ions in the filtrate. In comparison, over 99% of Co and Ni ions, along with the remaining Mn ions, precipitated as sulfide compounds in the residue. Subsequently, the residue was treated with 3.5% HCl to dissolve the remaining Mn ions as salts, leaving CoS and NiS as insoluble compounds. The solution containing the dissolved Mn ions was then recovered as solid manganese hydroxide via hydrolysis with NaOH until the pH reached 12. [XRD and ICP-OES] analyses confirmed the over 98% removal of Mn ions from the sulfuric-leached solution, with less than 3% Ni and Co ions losses.
