출입국관리법상 사회통합프로그램(KIIP)에 대한 정책적 소고

Abstract

The purpose of Immigration control Act is to stipulate the matters concerning the entry into and departure from the Republic of Korea (hereinafter referred to as Korea) of Koreans and foreigners, the stay of foreigners in Korea, and the procedures for the recognition of refugee status. To help the multi-cultural families living in Korea adapt to our society well, public facilities will offer support programs such as Korean language learning classes. For this reason, the state needs to work together with provincial and municipal authorities, civic groups and communities to provide systematic educational and cultural programs to better understand foreign residents. That condition is stipulated in the immigration law. The purpose of this research is to present through it’s basic data for improvement in the operation of KIIP in the future by grasping participation process in KIIP that the immigrants have experienced, problems involved in their operation, and related requirements. Major results of the research are as follows. The motive for the immigrants’ participation in KIIP was to acquire Korean nationality, learn Korean, and prepare for their future in Korea. It seems that for KIIP to provide an opportunity for the immigrants to have a vision for their life in the future, as well as for its realization in Korean society, policy-oriented institutional support that pays attention to their life situation and demands is badly needed.
