Abstract

The social phenomenon of multicutural family has become a big issue in the 2000s. There has been much endeavor of the government and social activists to integrate these families to Korean society, which resulted in establishing Support for Multicutural Family Act and making a national plan containing the support of these families. Especially, through the Support for Multicutural Family Act, systemic and effective supports by the government are expected. On the other hand, there has been also much studies on multicultural family problems conducted by academic circles of sociology. Sociology researchers recognised the importance of this issue earlier than anyone else and disclosed the poor reality of immigrant women, stressing the necessity of protecting human rights of the immigrant women from the social and individual risks. This foresight helps our society understand our social environment and solve some related problems, but the legal approaches toward social integration are very rare relatively. This paper has a goal to grasp the present status of mulicultural family support and organize support system, being based on the recognition mentioned above. According to the result of the study, present support system can be estimated as good condition, considering it started in 2006. Nevertheless, a few suggestions may be brought forward to make this system much more effective and useful. These suggestions contain reduction of burden on the support center employees, various and useful program development led by the central support center, close cooperations among the civil groups conducting multicultural family works, and systemic management of educational support on the second generation children.
